The Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company was an Ohio-based fire truck manufacturer. The company was founded in 1910 by John P Ahrens and Charles H Fox and built its first motorized fire engine in 1911. By the end of the following year production of horse-drawn fire apparatus ceased completely. Since then, over 1500 pieces of fire apparatus were built until 1977. Ahrens-Fox fire engines were recognizable by the chromed sphere above the pump that held air and smoothed the outgoing pressure fluctuations from the piston pump.

This masterpiece of engineering is adorned with accessories mounted decoratively to its running boards and other exterior fixtures. The Ahrens Fox pumper is a very powerful truck with a 998 CID 6-cylidner engine producing 100 hp. It rides on a 182 inch wheelbase and the full length extends 23 feet.

It was purchased new by the Vincennes, Indiana fire department who used it for 46 years. As a testament to its excellent perpetual care, it remained in good condition throughout its life.  Its first restoration was performed in 1970 and then received a freshening in 2001. It has been a centerpiece of the John B. McMullen collection for more than 2 decades.
