Here at Nostalgic Motoring, we love Dodge Challengers. In fact, we have welcomed numerous Challengers through our doors, each one leaving a lasting impression.
This one, however, is particularly special.
Today, we look at a standout from Dodge’s Last Call series: the 2023 Dodge Challenger Jailbreak Redeye Hellcat Widebody Last Call.
The 2023 Dodge Challenger Jailbreak Red-eye Hellcat Widebody Last Call may have one of the longest names in the history of the automobile, but the Challenger Jailbreak Redeye Hellcat Widebody Last Call is no laughing matter.
Last Call
The Last Call series is Dodge’s magnum opus, the pièce de résistance, from the horsepower-loving brand.
For the last 20 years, the LX platform has underpinned every Dodge and Chrysler car. A surviving relic from the Daimler-Chrysler merger of 1998, the LX platform traces its roots back to the w222 Mercedes-Bens S-class and W212 E-class
Time for a well-deserved retirement.
If there is one thing Dodge is good at, it’s throwing a party. They’re going all out with a bang, releasing a host of V8-powered Challengers and Chargers that pay homage to the era that ignited the automotive world’s obsession with raw power.
Dodge’s “Last Call” series includes several models and trims, such as the SRT® Demon 170, Swinger Special, and Black Ghost—a car we recently set a record for at auction.
It’s every “end of an era” movie wrapped in one. Vanishing Point, American Graffiti, American Pie, Dazed and Confused, Superbad. It’s time for Dodge to finally leave their high school friends and go off to a school upstate. But first, Dodge throws one last party at their parent’s house.
We saw this as an opportunity to join in on the fun.
Taking advantage of the best that Dodge has to offer, we’ve curated a selection of special features to create the perfect spec.
Before we jump to our spec, let’s break down what this mile-long name actually means.
2023 Dodge Challenger: You know that one, good job. 100% so far
Jailbreak: The Jailbreak edition allows for complete customization, from suede door trim to the transmission selection. More importantly, when you check the Jailbreak 27D box, it also includes the 6.2l HO engine. The “high output” 6.2L produces an astounding 807 horsepower.
Redeye Hellcat: The Redeye is a Hellcat variant that inherits upgrades from the exclusive limited-production Demon. Its red eyes signifying it has been “possessed by a demon.” The Redeye trim increases power of the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 from 717 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque to 797 hp and 707 lb-ft. The Redeye trim also includes other Demon-only features such as line-lock and launch control. Essentially you get a Dodge Demon in a more useable package.
Widebody Package: Available for most Dodge models, the widebody package adds wider fender flares, increasing the overall width by approximately 3 inches. This enables the use of wider wheels (20×11) and tires (305/35ZR20 Pirelli), along with adaptive Bilstein competition suspension. Additionally, it includes 6-piston calipers and stiffened roll bars which are standard features on Hellcat models.
Last Call: Dodge’s “Last Call” series is a special farewell to certain models, namely, the large displacement V8 special editions. This limited-production series features unique design elements and performance enhancements that serve as a tribute to the models and the V8 as a whole.
Finish
The Challenger we have here is a combination of the best options available from Dodge and is a perfect representation of the ideology of the brand as a whole.
We started with the exterior and finished the car in timeless Plum Crazy Purple, an iconic hue reminiscent of Dodge’s golden era. This paint option is exclusive to the Last Call series, alongside other revered heritage colors like B5 Blue, Sublime green, and the modern favorite, Destroyer Grey.
To top off this spec, we have Brass Monkey badges that match the 20-Inch x 11.0-Inch Devil’s Rim Brass Monkey Wheels.
Purple over brass, baby.
Based on preliminary Chrysler build production data, it appears that there are less than 10 Challengers in this configuration. And if we did our math right, this is the only Challenger in this spec. A 1 of 1 build.
With that in mind, we selected several other stand-out options to set this Challenger apart from the rest, starting with the Jailbreak instrument panel.
We added orange calipers for a pop of color, the SRT Widebody stripe and performance spoiler for added road presence.
The interior features Alcantara/laguna seats with SRT Hellcat logo, Alcantara door trims, genuine carbon fiber accents, and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with white LED logo.
And of course, hood pins. Included from the factory as part of the Mopar black hood pin kit.
Engine
Utilizing a slightly detuned version of the 6.2L V8 Supercharged HO found in the drag-special Dodge Demon, the Hellcat Redeye produces 807 horsepower.
The Hellcat Redeye also gains some of the drag-racing tech that the Demon had, including line-lock.
Other performance upgrades over the “standard” SRT include a performance shift indicator, launch control with launch assist, conical cold air intake, high-performance engine controller, and competition suspension.
What Makes It Special?
The 2023 Dodge Challenger Jailbreak Redeye Hellcat Widebody Last Call (gosh, that’s long. There are 10 words and 61 characters in that model name) is a send-off of the model. A final go at it. The Last Hurrah.
But it’s about more than just this model. It’s a send-off to an entire segment of the automobile; one that will no longer be factory-supported in this new car world.
The high horsepower, no care, “what’s fuel economy?”, middle finger to the establishment, muscle-car-world that the Challenger was a part of creating, is a dead breed.
The Challenger Jailbreak Redeye Hellcat Wide Big Booty Last Call is the old world. It’s “mine’s bigger” in automotive form, and nothing could be more American.
As of the publication of this article, there is no new plan for the next Dodge Challenger.
The Challenger is dead and the new Charger will carry on the two and four-door offerings from Dodge.
Powertrain: all-electric or a straight-6 HO 3.0l twin turbo.
No V8.
Interesting powertrain choices, and ones we’ll be sure to check out when released, but not a rumbly V8.
Like this one.
A big one.
The new car will carry the attitude the Dodge boys brought to this world, or at least that’s what Dodge’s marketing team wants you to think.
So what makes it special? This is Dodge’s Last Call. This is the end of an era. One we are proud to be a part of.
The last Challenger has already rolled off the assembly line.
So for now, we’ll stick with the old-school mentality Dodge that has brought Dodge success over the years: No replacement for displacement.
