Engine and Drivetrain of the 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost

The Challenger Black Ghost is built based on the Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody and uses its high-output 6.2L supercharged V8. While the Hellcat Redeye Widebody offers drivers a blazing 797 horsepower, the Black Ghost stands out with an exhilarating 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. This mind-boggling power offers a 0-60 time of just 3.25 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds! The supercharged engine comes paired with a high-torque-enabled 8-speed automatic transmission which drivers can control using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Like all Challenger models, the Black Ghost rides on a rear-wheel drive platform.

Design Features of the 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost

The Black Ghost joins the 2023 Dodge “Last Call” lineup with a bold, blacked-out appearance. At the front, the all-black Challenger features a bright Dodge fascia badge contrasting the pitch-black paint. On the rear fenders, you’ll find white Black Ghost graphics also standing out from the paint color. Black Mopar hood pins serve as a humble nod to the Challengers of old. The Challenger script badge, which has withstood the test of time, can be found on the grille, front fenders, and spoiler. Meanwhile, a Midnight Metallic SRT badge is found on the grille with the Hellcat emblem. The Black Ghost rolls on 20-by-8-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels. The roof wears a black “gator skin” roof vinyl, giving it a one-of-a-kind look. Inside the Black Ghost, the seats are wrapped with an eclectic mix of Alcantara microfiber and Laguna leather. The steering wheel is wrapped in comfortable Alcantara and wears a red SRT logo at the center. The interior bezels are made of real carbon fiber, and other carbon fiber accents can be found throughout the interior. The instrument panel features a Black Ghost badge upon starting the vehicle.

Origin Story of the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost

The name Black Ghost dates back to 1970s Detroit on Woodward Avenue. In the ’70s, an all-black 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE owned by Godfrey Qualls flexed its roaring 426 cubic-inch HEMI engine on Detroit’s famed Woodward Avenue one night. After showing off its muscle, the Challenger disappeared into the darkness mysteriously. After not being seen again for months, locals began calling the Challenger the Black Ghost. The Black Ghost isn’t just a legend on Woodward Avenue. In fact, it earned itself a spot on the National Historic Vehicle Register in 2020. To this day, the original Black Ghost remains in the Qualls family. This is why Dodge chose to make a 2023 Last Call special edition directly inspired by the original Black Ghost.
