1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 5 Passenger Cabriolet

Launched in late 1967 and produced until 1971, the Mercedes 280SE 111 Chassis Coupe and Cabriolet models offered buyers an inline-six engine fitted with a fuel injection system, offering 180hp. When the series was introduced, Road and Track Magazine said “one of the best-looking body designs to come from any German concern.” The 280SE Cabriolet’s were assembled with very low production and only 2,500 units were built for the US market. With its beautiful design and exceptional proportion, this series became an instant classic.
The example offered is finished in the classic and desired color of Blau (Blue Metallic) with a beautiful Blue leather interior and matching convertible top. This awesome motorcar is a US spec model fitted with options, including factory Air Conditioning and Floor mounted automatic transmission selector.
The paint, chrome and brightwork shine beautifully with little evidence of age or use. The engine, transmission and rear end were all rebuilt at the time of restoration. The engine runs great with a strong delivery of power and a smooth idle. The transmission shifts properly as designed. The Air Conditioning blows cold and is further supported with an auxiliary electric cooling fan to keep it operating at its best efficiency. The leather interior was nicely restored and is soft and luxurious. The seats are firm and supportive. The rich woodwork has been refinished and looks fantastic. The matching Blue canvas top is in very good condition but does have a small split on one edge. The radio was upgraded to a contemporary Alpine unit and works well.
We are proud to offer this wonderful example of a rare and sought after classic Mercedes-Benz. Please come and experience it for yourself.
